"NADMO seeks to enhance the capacity of society to prevent and manage disasters and to improve the livelihood of the poor and vulnerable in rural communities through effective disaster management, social mobilisation and employment generation.

To manage disasters by co-ordinating the resources of government institutions and non-governmental agencies, and developing the capacity of communities to respond effectively to disasters and improve their livelihood through social mobilization, employment generation and poverty reduction projects."

Message from the Director-General

It is with a deep sense of responsibility and commitment that I serve as Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation. NADMO was established by Act 517 of 1996 in response to the Yokohama Strategy for a Safer World, which mandated every nation to create a permanent disaster management organisation — and Ghana answered that call.

Our motto, "PREVENTION PAYS", is not merely a slogan — it is the philosophical foundation of everything we do. We believe that investment in preparedness, early warning systems, community education and risk reduction saves far more lives and resources than any post-disaster response ever could.

NADMO today operates through a National Secretariat, 16 Regional Secretariats, over 243 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Secretariats, and more than 900 Zonal Offices. This decentralised structure ensures that our reach extends from the corridors of government all the way to individual communities — where disasters are ultimately felt and where resilience must ultimately be built.

I call on all Ghanaians — individuals, families, communities, civil society organisations, the private sector and our international partners — to join hands with NADMO in building a disaster-resilient Ghana. Together, we can protect lives, safeguard livelihoods, and ensure that no community is left behind when disaster strikes.
