Northern Region Floods: NADMO Distributes Relief to 2,500 Displaced Families

NADMO has distributed emergency relief items to over 2,500 families displaced by flooding in the Northern Region following weeks of above-average rainfall.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has completed an emergency relief distribution exercise across seven flood-affected communities in the Northern Region, reaching over 2,500 displaced families.

Communities along the White Volta River basin — including parts of Tolon, Kumbungu, and Sagnarigu districts — experienced severe flooding after several consecutive days of heavy rainfall caused the river to burst its banks.

Relief items distributed include food rations, drinking water, sleeping mats, mosquito nets, blankets, and basic hygiene kits. NADMO's Northern Regional Director, Alhaji Ibrahim Alhassan, led operations on the ground with support from the Ghana Red Cross, UNICEF, and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council.

"We have accounted for all displaced families and are working to ensure that no one is left without support. Our teams are also conducting water quality testing to prevent cholera outbreaks in the temporary shelters," said Alhaji Alhassan.

NADMO urges communities near flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as the rainy season continues. Residents with information on additional affected communities should contact the NADMO hotline on 0800-11-3000.
